How do I use Zyrtec? Notify your pharmacist or doctor of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Follow the directions for using Zyrtec provided by your doctor. Zyrtec may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Store Zyrtec at room temperature, away from heat and light. If you miss a Zyrtec dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular Zyrtec dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once. If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, contact your doctor. Do NOT share Zyrtec with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do NOT use Zyrtec for other health conditions. Keep Zyrtec out of the reach of children and pets. If using Zyrtec for an extended period obtain Zyrtec refills before your supply runs out. (top) Zyrtec Precautions Zyrtec will enhance the effects of alcohol and other depressants. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions. Do NOT drive, operate machinery, or participate in any potentially dangerous activities until you know how you react to Zyrtec. Using Zyrtec alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. For Women: It is not known if Zyrtec is excreted in breast milk. Do NOT breast-feed while taking Zyrtec. (top) Possible Zyrtec Side Effects Zyrtec side effects that may go away during treatment, include drowsiness or dry mouth. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. (top) Zyrtec Drug Interactions Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job. Use a drug interaction checker to find out if your medicines interact with each other. (top) Zyrtec Overdose If a Zyrtec overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
